Practical lookup table for running the Bambu Lab H2S + AMS 2 Pro: what can be fed from the AMS, what needs a hardened nozzle, what the AMS physically cannot dry, plus temps, property ratings and EU pricing. Facts verified against wiki.bambulab.com and eu.store.bambulab.com on 2026-08-07.
Start Here
1 — AMS 2 Pro cannot dry the materials that most need drying
AMS 2 Pro tops out at 65 °C and Bambu lists it “Not recommended” for drying ABS, ASA, PC, PA, PAHT-CF, PET-CF and TPU. Those are exactly the materials whose spec sheet says “drying required before use + desiccant during use.” Only an AMS HT (80–85 °C) or a blast oven actually covers them. The AMS 2 Pro is a feeder and a humidity holder for these — not a dryer.
2 — The stock 0.4 mm nozzle is hardened steel. It is CF-capable out of the box.
On the Bambu Hotend - H2/P2S, nozzle material is determined by size, not by a purchasing choice — there is no hardened-vs-stainless decision to make at a given size. The H2S ships with a 0.4 mm, therefore it is already hardened steel. Nothing needs verifying before running CF/GF.
Only the 0.2 mm is stainless, and it clogs on carbon fiber, glass fiber and metal-filled filament — see Nozzles.
Corrected 2026-08-07. The wiki line “Materials: Hardened steel / Stainless steel” means across the size range, not two variants of the same size. This note previously carried that misreading as a blocking warning.
3 — PET-CF / PPA-CF / PPS-CF are external-feed only
These are not AMS-feedable. Run them from an external spool. PPA-CF special case: even with an AMS HT, the HT unit only seals and dries the spool — the filament still has to be routed out through the TPU output port on the H2D/H2S backplate. AMS HT ≠ AMS feeding for PPA-CF.
Printer Capability — H2S
| Spec | Value |
|---|---|
| Max hotend temp | 350 °C |
| Chamber | 65 °C active heated |
| Filament range | Runs the entire Bambu filament lineup |
| Stock nozzle | 0.4 mm — material unstated on the packing list |
| AMS capacity | Up to 4x AMS 2 Pro + 8x AMS HT = 24 slots |
| Multi-AMS requirement | 4-in-1 PTFE adapter, part FAZ013-N |
For Agents
PPS-CF/GF is printable only on the H2 Series and the X1E. No other Bambu model can run it. If a design calls for PPS, the H2S is the machine — but check gotcha 2 and 3 first.
Master Compatibility Matrix
Ratings are HDT / Impact / Tensile, each out of 5. Nozzle temps are ±10 °C.
Reading the
—cells
—= not captured in the source tables, not “no”. The wiki names base grades in its AMS and drying lists (PLA,PETG,ASA,PC…) and does not individually enumerate every variant, so variant rows carry—where the base grade’s behaviour was never explicitly extended to them. In practice a variant almost always inherits its base grade — but that is an inference, so confirm against the base row before committing an expensive print.

AMS Feeding
Source: Bambu wiki filament-guide-material-table.
AMS compatible: PLA, PLA-CF, PETG, PETG HF, PETG-CF, ASA, PC, ABS, ABS-GF, PAHT-CF / PA-CF, Support for PA/PET
NOT AMS compatible: PET-CF/GF, PPA-CF/GF, PPS-CF/GF, TPU
PAHT-CF is "compatible" but not carefree
PAHT-CF is officially AMS-compatible, but it can be brittle enough to snap inside AMS channels and to wear the feed path. Treat AMS-fed PAHT-CF as a known risk, not a default — an external spool is the safer route for long or expensive jobs.
Drying
AMS 2 Pro: 65 °C max. That number is the whole story — see gotcha 1.
Drying required before use + desiccant during use: PC · PA / PAHT-CF · PET-CF · TPU · PETG HF · PVA
AMS HT drying conditions (80–85 °C):
| Material | Temp | Time |
|---|---|---|
| PC | 80 °C | 8 h |
| PAHT-CF | 85 °C | 12 h |
| PET-CF | 80 °C | 12 h |
| ABS | 80 °C | 8 h |
| ASA | 80 °C | 8 h |
Practical consequence
If the plan includes PC, PC FR, PAHT-CF, PET-CF, PA6-GF or TPU, budget for an AMS HT or a blast oven up front. The AMS 2 Pro alone leaves those materials permanently under-dried, which shows up as stringing, popping, and a large tensile/impact loss on nylons.
Nozzles

Material is a function of size
There is no hardened-vs-stainless purchasing decision
On the Bambu Hotend - H2/P2S the nozzle material is fixed per size. You do not choose it.
| Size | Material |
|---|---|
| 0.2 mm | Stainless steel |
| 0.4 mm | Hardened steel |
| 0.6 mm | Hardened steel |
| 0.8 mm | Hardened steel |
| 0.4 mm High Flow | Hardened steel |
The H2S ships with 0.4 mm → hardened steel → CF-capable as delivered.
Bambu’s own guidance
For filaments containing carbon fiber or glass fiber, it is highly recommended to use a hardened steel 0.6 mm nozzle to minimize the risk of clogging and abrasion.
Bambu PLA-CF and PETG-CF have been extensively tested and proven to have a low risk of clogging when printed with a hardened steel 0.4 mm nozzle, while also achieving higher print quality.
Filaments with carbon fiber, glass fiber, metal, or other inorganic particles are prone to clog a 0.2 mm nozzle.
Read together: the stock 0.4 mm is the right nozzle for PLA-CF and PETG-CF and gives better surface quality; step up to 0.6 mm for the harsher CF/GF grades (PA-CF, PET-CF, PPA-CF, PPS-CF); never put anything filled through the 0.2 mm.
High Flow is the wrong tool for filled filament
0.4 mm High Flow is “Not recommended” for: PLA-CF · PETG-CF · ASA-CF · PAHT-CF · PA6-CF · PA6-GF
If high flow is the goal on a filled material, go 0.6 mm or 0.8 mm rather than 0.4 HF.
| Nozzle for PA-CF / PET-CF / PPA-CF / PPS-CF | Verdict |
|---|---|
| 0.6 mm hardened | Recommended |
| 0.4 mm High Flow | Not recommended |
Hotend options (EU store)
| Hotend | From | Sizes | Hardness | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bambu Hotend - H2/P2S | €19.99 | 0.2 / 0.4 / 0.6 / 0.8, Standard and High Flow | Hardened steel HRA 74 (0.2 mm is stainless) | The stock part |
| Tungsten Carbide Hotend - H2/P2S/X2D | €59.99 | 0.4 / 0.6 / 0.8 only | HRA 90 | ~50 % longer life on abrasives, max temp 350 °C |
When tungsten carbide pays for itself
At 3x the price it only makes sense under sustained abrasive load — continuous PA-CF / PET-CF / PPS-CF production. For occasional CF work the €19.99 hardened steel nozzle is a consumable; just replace it. Note there is no 0.2 mm carbide, which is consistent with 0.2 mm being unsuitable for filled filament in the first place.
Material Properties
HDT / Impact / Tensile, out of 5.
| Material | HDT | Impact | Tensile | Read as |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PLA | 2 | 2 | 3 | Prototype only |
| PLA-CF | 2 | 2 | 4 | Stiff but still low-temp |
| PETG | 3 | 3 | 2 | Balanced, weak in tension |
| PETG-CF | 3 | 3 | 3 | Even all-round |
| ABS | 3 | 3 | 3 | Even all-round |
| ASA | 3 | 3 | 3 | ABS + UV stability |
| PC | 4 | 4 | 4 | Best impact of the rigid engineering grades |
| PA | 4 | 3 | 4 | Tough, hygroscopic |
| PAHT-CF / PA-CF | 5 | 2 | 5 | Top heat + stiffness, low impact |
| PET-CF | 5 | 1 | 5 | Stiffest — but brittle |
| TPU | 1 | 5 | 1 | Elastomer |
For Agents
The high-HDT/high-tensile grades (PAHT-CF 5/2/5, PET-CF 5/1/5) buy stiffness by giving up impact resistance. For anything that gets knocked, dropped or vibrated, PC’s 4/4/4 is the better balance despite the lower headline numbers.

Material Selection Decisions
| Use case | Chosen | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Vehicle ECU box | PC FR | Flame retardant, tough (4/4/4), AMS-feedable, no hardened nozzle needed |
| High-temp / structural — underhood brackets, UAV arms, motor mounts | PAHT-CF | HDT 5, tensile 5, 260–300 °C; accepts the drying + hardened-nozzle cost |
| General stiff functional parts / first CF material | PETG-CF | Cheapest CF entry (€32.99), even 3/3/3, AMS-feedable, no drying gate |
| RC model airframe, weight-critical | PLA Aero or ASA Aero | Foaming filaments — density traded for stiffness |
Why PET-CF was rejected as the default
PET-CF has the best stiffness numbers on the board (5/1/5, tied with PAHT-CF on HDT and tensile) but was not made the default structural material because:
- Impact rating 1/5 — brittle, fails badly on shock loads
- Not AMS-feedable — external spool every time
PAHT-CF gives the same 5 HDT / 5 tensile and stays AMS-feedable, so it wins for structural work.
